I just completed my first ever, podcast interview and it was with speaker and author, Ekene Agabu. I first discovered Ekene via the blog, Nigerian Curiosity where he was interviewed on his opinions regarding polygamy in Nigeria.
He is a professional speaker in Baltimore, where for between 2 – 4,000 he speaks on responsible sexuality. From what I could gather, he is going to be releasing some mainstream pieces of writing in the very near future.
First-Time-Interviewer-Jitters
I was quite nervous, as you can tell in the recording, but Ekene was a fantastic guest because he was very short, sweet and to the point. Very intelligent, purpose driven guy.
The Interview
Some of the things discussed:
1) Who he is and what he does including his background and how he became a speaker.
2) His journey to speaking about sexuality.
3) How would society look if he achieved his objective?
4) What is the purpose of family?
5) Powerful changes in mindset and thinking when it comes to sexuality.
6) Message to boys on the African continent and much more…….
The Main Thing I Took Away from the Interview was….
The importance of knowing your desired outcome. Before engaging in anything, ask yourself,
Why am I doing this? What am I hoping to achieve or get out of it?
And then ask yourself:
Will doing this get me to where I want to be?
It was definitely interesting the way Ekene advised people, before succumbing to the overwhelming urges to simply ask themselves:
Will I desire the consequences of what I am about to do?

In my humble opinion, as a society, we still have not delved deeply enough into understanding, investigating and practicing the art of redirecting sexual energy . It is briefly touched on everywhere from Think and Grow Rich

i am listening to your podcast as i write. You did a great job. Keep doing your thing. A year from now you will be a pro! So what got you into podcasting? What tools do you use to podcast?
Re-directing sexual energy I think needs investigation.
It depends on if we see it as a neutral force or as having some kind of quality of its own. I tend to the latter view. And I think the quality is about connection and intimacy.
So I think massage and caring can re-direct sexual energy satisfactorily but to put it into business is less satisfactory. I also think there are people born with differing degrees of energy. Some just have more energy for everything.
I’d love to see you investigate this more. It’s a big topic.

My teacher recommends that I get into podcasting and around the time I was starting this blog, I initially wanted it to be a blog where I went around with a camera- as an ex film student- and interviewed Africans I found great so I could compile a collection of thoughts of great Africans, so I always intended on interviewing great Africans.
To create the podcasts I use:
a) Skype
b) Pamela Voice Recorder
And I edit the sound with Audacity and Itunes.
But watch this space, I have come to see its just easier to do videos and audios and so I want to make them semi-regular.
@Evan: I often say this as a joke but underlying it is a very interesting truth.
Because I have so many female interests- I like chick flicks, talking about relationships, emotions, I am a huge fan of musical theatre, suck at sports etc etc – I often wonder if had I been born here would I have swung for the same team, but there is one component of my being that leaves little doubt as to my heterosexuality
I am highly aggressive when it comes to more carnal pursuits.
Now the reason I bring this up is because as I am, I intuitively feel that sexual energy has a number of qualities, tempos and forms of expression depending on the person.
Hmm, you know what Evan, watch this space, I think this topic is one of those timeless ones and should you also decide to investigate the topic I would love to hear what you have to say.

Great interview, Mwangi. Sorry, I just got to hear it though. I have known Ekene Agabu for a long time. He is practically a brother to me and I respect his opinion on matters thoroughly. Thanks for giving myself and others an opportunity to here the good man talk about crucial issues that we must face and address as a society.
